Radio etiquette

  • Keep messages short: "Bilal, this is Kamran, at rally point A, all safe, over"
  • Say "over" when done speaking so the other person knows to respond
  • Say "out" when the conversation is finished
  • Don't transmit unless necessary; save battery
  • Identify yourself every time: "This is [your name]"

Range expectations

  • Urban Karachi (buildings, concrete): 500m–2km realistic
  • Open areas (rooftop to rooftop): 3–5km
  • Obstacles destroy range: stay elevated if possible, near windows

Battery life tips

  • Turn off the screen backlight
  • Use low power mode if available
  • Don't transmit long messages; each transmission drains battery fast
  • Carry spare batteries in your go-bag
